EMBRACE CHRISTMAS

MCC Sydney has again adopted the theme of Embrace Christmas this year.

To embrace something is to "receive gladly", or to "accept willingly." It carries a warm connotation of clasping someone closely, to take someone in your arms, to press them close to your heart, to hug them. It also has a meaning of "availing oneself of something", as in "to embrace an opportunity."

Any one of those meanings would be reason enough for the theme.

At MCC Sydney, we believe they're ALL perfect!

At Bethlehem over 2000 years ago, God embraced the world. A little child was born, a child who would bring a message of hope to a people with little to celebrate. It was a message that God was taking humanity in a loving embrace, pressing us close to God's heart.

It was a message of love.

God's message is the same today. God asks us to embrace the gift of Jesus, to receive that gift gladly, to accept it willingly. It's a gift that is waiting at the foot of the Christmas tree. Have you unwrapped your gift? Or does it lay there untouched?

Jesus presents an opportunity for you to share in that gift of God's love.

MCC Sydney takes seriously our responsibility to bring people and Jesus together. This year, as in past years, we are bringing the joy of God's gift to the world through singing. Our Christmas Eve service at the Sydney Town Hall is one way you can participate.

At our worship services in December, we light an Advent Candle each week, symbolising an ever-increasing brightness as the true light of God is about to come into the world.

CHRISTMAS DAY

MCC Sydney's church service on Christmas Day is at 10am at 96 Crystal Street Petersham.

We celebrate the birth of Jesus, God's gift to the world. You can celebrate with us, or even better, bring a friend along too and make your Christmas one characterised by sharing.

EMBRACE WITH US

You can help support our Christmas Eve Service by purchasing a 'hug' in our Embrace Christmas campaign. You give a gift of between $1 and $100, but there's only one gift available in each denomination. So if you wanted to give $50 but that was taken, you could purchase the $22 and the $28. We think it's a fun way that you can help sponsor our Christmas outreach.

JUST EMBRACE!

Christmas can be a lonely time for many people, cut off from loved ones and feeling isolated. So no matter where you are, ask the people around you if it's OK for you to give them a hug. Jesus proved that we sometimes need a physical expression of love before we truly believe that we are loved. Christmas gives you an opportunity to show that love to others.
